Since it was established in 1966 by Krzysztof Jasiński, who has managed it continuously to this day, The STU Theatre has captivated and attracted both with its cryptic name, secret house mark, and especially with varied artistic offer and initiatives in the field of theatre, visual arts, music, dance, audiovisual arts, phonography, publishing, open-air shows, and mass culture. For that reason, in various periods during its 40-year-long history, the STU Theatre was perceived as a student theatre, theatrical commune, world-class alternative theatre, enclave of contesting and counterculture, theatrical school substitute (Studio Aktorskie), centre of interdisciplinary artistic pursuits (Ochodza), sanctuary for 'homeless' artists, and a friendly place for all types of debuts, carrying out of innovative ideas, exchange of opinions, and social life.
